5 Quick Tips for How to Best WfH

Updated: Mar 19, 2020

1. Choose a dedicated workplace

….that isn’t your bed! Set aside a place in your flat just for working. It will help improve your productivity and get into a good workflow

2. Plan out your day.

It’s easy to get distracted when you don’t have a clear plan of what tasks you need to get done and for when. Time block your day - it will help keep you accountable for your tasks (and personal time) by allocating specific times for each.

Quick tip: start your day with the larger tasks. Research shows that one is most productive early in the day (for most☝️).

Here’s a good article on how to start time blocking.

3. Take breaks!

Just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you can’t take breaks! Plan breaks into your day and make sure you actually take the time to get away from your workspace. Make a coffee, empty the dishwasher, or take a short walk outside.

4. Remove distractions

There’s so much opportunity to be distracted by partners, kids, flatmates, TV etc when at home. Set clear boundaries for yourself and the people around you. If social media is a big distraction for you, remove the temptation by going on Hold. If you have kids and a partner who also

works, try looking after the kids

in shifts.

Here are some great suggestion on how to wfh with a partner and kids.

5. Force social situations

It can be very isolating working from home. So when you have calls, try changing them to video calls, to get some social interaction. Or set up a virtual water cooler over video chat - you and your colleagues can set up a time to tune in and catch up over a cup of tea or coffee, just from the comfort of your home.
